Bhubaneswar: Few police personnel were manhandled by locals at Adivasi Basti under Salia Sahi area of the Capital city on Friday while they had gone to rescue two drug peddlers detained by the latter.

Reportedly, two drug peddlers with 14 packets of suspected narcotics had been detained by the public in the area and police had been informed. It was when the police arrived and tried to rescue the accused duo the locals started jostling with the cops and even attacked them.

On the other hand, the locals alleged that a Home Guard in plain clothes attempted to hide the seized packets to which the women in the area protested accusing the police is trying to save the drug peddlers.

The women stated that police is not taking any stringent action against the drug peddlers as a result of which many minor boys in the area are falling victim to drug addiction.

Bhubaneswar DCP Anup Kumar Sahoo said a probe has been launched in the above cases and further action will be taken based on the findings.
