Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate of Police today released helpline numbers which the women of the twin cities can use in case of distress.

DCP (Traffic) Sagarika Nath released the numbers. Apart from standard 100, women can dial 0674-2543541 and 9437581575. They can also Whatsapp to 9437571875.

This is in compliance to the Commissionerate of Police’s decision to check crime against women in the twin cities of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar. In December 2019, the Police Commissionerate had decided to appoint working women as Special Police Officers. The SPOs were to be selected from among women working at multinational companies, including BPOs, software firms, banks and even educational institutions.

Police Commissioner Sudhanshu Sarangi had said that this step was been taken to ensure better communication between the police and the women and improvement of safety of women in workplaces. The release of the special numbers goes on to prove the Police Commissionerate’s wish to bring in a safer environment for women.
