Dhenkanal: Despite being sanctioned with the formal work order for construction of their respective houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), the eligible PMAY beneficiaries are now left in the lurch midway as the Bhuban NAC authorities have slapped stop-work order.

Kamakhyanagar MLA-cum-Minister Prafulla Kumar Mallick had on 20.02.2019 officially distributed work order for the purpose to eight bona fide PMAY beneficiaries of Ward No 3 under Bhuban NAC. Soon after, the poor beneficiaries had started the house building activity. Most of the beneficiaries were also about to complete the construction of their houses. However, the NAC authorities issued the intriguing stop work order.

Aggrieved PMAY beneficiary Mini Mallick said, “Even though the authorities had taken our house foundation photograph and others, now they have issued notice to stop work and have categorically said that we are deprived of the housing scheme benefit. We are poor and have borrowed loan for the house construction. What shall we do now? We have come here to meet the Collector with our grievance.”

Another aggrieved PMAY beneficiary Khulana Mallick said, “The work order was given to us by the Minister. The JE had also met us and we went ahead with our house construction work. The authorities had taken all the necessary photographs from the construction site. On July 22 we received notice that we have to stop work. We have already demolished our thatched houses. Where shall we stay now as most of our construction work is on the verge of completion. Hence, we have come today for lodging our complaint with the Collector.”

Dhenkanal Collector Bhumesh Kumar Behera in his media reactions said, “I have issued direction to the Kamakhyanagar Sub-Collector to enquire into the matter and submit me a report so that necessary action could be taken. He is the administrator. If the case is found genuine, action will be taken accordingly.”
