Bhubaneswar: A day after Odisha Chief Minister wrote to the Prime Minister to make PM-KISAN scheme more inclusive with the inclusion of landless labourers, share croppers and vulnerable agricultural households like Odisha Government’s own KALIA scheme, the State Government has started examining the Central scheme as the Centre needs beneficiary data by February 25 for its effective implementation.

In his reactions, Odisha Food Supplies and Cooperation Minister Surya Narayan Patro said, “The Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Modiji has come a step forward for implementing the scheme for the farmers as Odisha’s KALIA has earned laurels in the country. During his tenure, this is his (PM’s) first ever work for the sake of the farmers.”

He mentioned, “Our Hon’ble Chief Minister has thanked Modiji for having done this task in a federal structure of governance as 92% of the people are marginal farmers and they will reap this (PM-KISAN) benefit. But, our Chief Minister has also requested to include the sharecroppers and landless as is the case of KALIA.

“As the deadline of the Centre is February 25, if it is implemented with whatever data is available with us, there is no problem,” stated the Odisha Minister.

Odisha Agriculture Secretary Saurabh Garg informed, “Now we are preparing list for our KALIA scheme. But, we have received the Centre’s letter and we are examining it. Accordingly, we’ll hold discussion with the Centre and take an appropriate decision.”

“We are examining about the Centre’s requirement for the purpose. They have provided us with an overall guideline. We haven’t asked for the state-wise specific instruction nor have they provided us. Hence, the process is underway relating to the guideline and yet to be finalized,” he further informed.
