Balangir: Little did Prasanna Rana know that a regular hernia operation would turn into a painful ordeal for him. An alleged medical negligence has left Prasanna jobless and in a pool of pain.
Prasanna hails from Laderbahal village in Puintala block of Balangir district. A few days ago, Prasanna had visited Dr Bhanjan Meher, Assistant Professor of Endoscopy, Bhimabhoi Medical College. Prasanna alleges that based on his symptoms Dr Meher suggested him to go for hernia but at a local private hospital.
After the operation was done, Prasanna left for home but even after the stipulatory period neither the pain reduced, nor the surgical wound dried up. He again visited the Bhimabhoi Medical College but was referred to VIMSAR, Burla. An MRI scan revealed that a plastic pipe was left inside his body during the hernia operation. The foreign body was not only causing pain but was also preventing the wound from drying up.
Prasanna works as a mason and due to the wrong treatment he has not been able to continue his work pushing him into a financial crunch. Moreover, he had to endure pain for no fault of his. Seeking justice Prasanna approached Balangir Collector and CDMO. He sought action against Dr Meher for medical negligence and compensation for himself.
Balangir Collector Arindham Dakua has promised to look into the matter and take necessary action after verifying the details of the incident.
