Sambalpur: At least two persons of a picnic party were killed and over twenty others were injured after the bus they were travelling in collided head-on with an oil tanker near Kayakud village under Jujomura police limits of Sambalpur district on Saturday.

Reportedly, over 40 persons from Gopalpur village under Balichandrapur block of Jajpur district had came to Sambalpur for picnicking. The mishap occurred when they were returning home.

Locals immediately came to rescue of the injured and they were first rushed to a nearby hospital. Critical among them were later shifted to Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR) in Burla.

Sambalpur Collector Samarth Verma and MLA Raseswari Panigrahi are presently taking stock of the situation.
