Phase-IV Polls: Voting Begins In 6 Lok Sabha & 41 Assembly Seats Of Odisha

Bhubaneswar: In the fourth phase polls of the world’s biggest festival of democracy, people of six Lok Sabha and 41 assembly constituencies in Odisha made a beeline to elect their representatives. The Parliamentary constituencies that are deciding their fate today are: Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara and Jagatsinghpur.

Similarly, the assembly seats that are polling today are- Jashipur, Saraskana, Rairangpur, Bangiriposi, Udala, Baripada, Morada, Badasahi, Jaleswar, Bhograi, Basta, Balasore, Remuna, Nilgiri, Soro, Simulia, Bhandaripokhari, Bhadrak, Basudevpur, Dhamnagar, Chandabali, Binjharpur, Bari, Barachana, Dharmasala, Jajpur, Korei, Sukinda, Salepur, Mahanga, Kendrapara, Aul, Rajanagar, Mahakalapada, Niali, Paradip, Tirtol, Balikuda-Ersama, Jagatsinghpur, Kakatpur and Nimapara.

In Patkura, the elections were countermanded after the death of BJD candidate Bed Prakash Agarwalla. The polling has been rescheduled to May 19.

While voting started on time at 7 am in most places, there were technical difficulties in some booths due to which polling began few minutes later. By 6 pm in the evening, the process is expected to be complete.

The total number of eligible voters are more than 95 lakh out of which 49 lakh are males and 45 lakh are females. In the Third Gender category 595 voters have been listed. 1.85 lakh persons with disabilities will cast their votes in the fourth phase.

Total 72,363 polling personnel and 10,236 vehicles have been deployed in 10,792 polling stations. There are many senstive booths and special attention will be given to Kendrapada Lok Sabha constituency by deploying additional police force.

In Mayurbhanj, Biju Janata Dal’s Debashish Marandi, Bharatiya Janata Party’s Bisheshwar Tudu and Congress backed JMM candidate Anjali Soren are fighting it out. In Balasore, the contest is among- BJD’s Rabindra Jena, BJP’s Pratap Sarangi and Congress’ Nabajyoti Patnaik. In Bhadrak, BJD’s Manjulata Mandal is going against BJP’s Abhimanyu Sethi and Congress’ Madhumita Sethi. In Jajpur, the fight is among BJD’s Sarmistha Sethy, BJP’s Amiya Mallik and Congress’ Manas Jena. In Jagatsinghpur, Rajasree Mallick of BJD, Bibhu Tarai of BJP and Congress’ Pratima Mallick are in the fray. And finally, all eyes are set on Kendrapara where the fight is between former BJD MP and now BJP candidate Baijayant Panda, BJD’s star candidate Anubhav Mohanty and Congress’ Dharanidhar Nayak.
