Phase-II Polls: Odisha CEO Asks Collectors To Ensure Every Booth Has Amenities To Beat Heat

Bhubaneswar: As the stage is all set for the Phase-II polling for five Lok Sabha and 35 Assembly seats in Odisha on Thursday, Odisha Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) today directed all the concerned District Collectors to ensure that every booth has the requisite amenities amid the prevailing heatwave conditions sweeping the State.

The CEO has stressed that the facilities to be made available to the voters at every booth till the fourth phase of polling in Odisha.

Briefing media today, Odisha CEO Surendra Kumar said, “Scorching rays of the sun surging. The people are casting their votes standing in the hot sun. Hence, we have immediately coordinated with the State Government for the necessary arrangements. We have ordered for allocating more funds so that every booth should have tent and some chairs. By doing so, the disabled, old persons and expecting mothers could take rest.”

“We hope our Collectors have taken steps in this respect. Today also we will hold review on this once again to ensure what steps in this regard has been taken.”    

Notably, a total of 76.93 lakh voters are eligible to cast their franchise for Bargarh, Sundargarh, Bolangir, Kandhamal and Aska Lok Sabha seats and 35 Assembly seats under these parliamentary constituencies spread across western and southern Odisha.

Of the total voters, 39.45 lakh male, 37.47 lakh female and 605 others will cast their votes in 9,117 booths, said sources at Chief Electoral Officer (CEO).
