Bhubaneswar: The State Government has collected Rs 5571.34 crore revenue from VAT on petrol and diesel in the financial year 2018-19.

While the collection was Rs 4042.56 crore from VAT on diesel, the total VAT collected on petrol in 2018-19 was 1528.78 crore, Food and Consumer Affairs Minister Ranendra Pratap Swain said.

Swain said that the State Government, in a bid to keep the prices of petrol and diesel stable, has not increased VAT on petrol and diesel since Jaunary 2016. "The Central Government imposed Additional Excise Duty of Re 1 on petrol and diesel from July 6, 2019 due to which the prices have increased," he said.

Responding to a question raised by Jatni MLA Suresh Routray, Swain said that the collection of VAT on diesel was Rs 765 crore and on petrol was Rs 317 crore in 2019-20 (upto June 2019).
