Bolangir: The mastermind of the Patnagarh parcel bomb tragedy, Punjilal Meher was sent on a 14-day judicial custody by the Patnagarh SDJM Court after completion of his second phase remand on Monday.
Earlier, the Crime Branch (CB) produced Punjilal in the court after conducting a medical examination at Patnagarh hospital the same morning.
Punjilal’s lawyer informed that their bail petition was rejected by the court which they will challenge at the Bolangir district and session court.
The Crime Branch officials along with Punjilal had returned from Raipur on Sunday where the accused recreated the crime plot right from his arrival at Raipur in train to booking of the parcel at the courier service.
According to sources, he even gave a live demonstration of his bomb making skills in presence of experts after returning to Odisha. Senior CB officials had informed that the purpose of reconstructing the crime scene was to ensure that the entire case is prosecuted without any error or weaknesses. They also visited Kantabanji railway station after its return and questioned contractor of the vehicle parking area at the station where Punjilal had parked his vehicle before leaving for Raipur.
Earlier on Sunday, Crime Branch IG Arun Bothra announced a reward of Rs 25,000 for information on the auto rickshaw driver who helped Punjilal in shipping the parcel. Besides all the evidences against Punjilal, the auto rickshaw driver will help the CB make the case more strong.
