Bhubaneswar: Amid the raging controversy revolving around the viral video showing Patnagarh MLA Saroj Meher punishing a PWD Junior Engineer (JE) in public for the allegedly low quality work executed in Belpada section of Bolangir district, Odisha Works Minister today announced that he would enquire into the matter.

In his media reactions at the State Secretariat today, Works Minister Prafulla Mallick said, “If the road construction work has been done of low quality, I’ll initiate enquiry. If it belongs to the Works Department, we’ll enquire into it. If low quality work has been done, action will be taken. Basing on the report after enquiry, action will be taken.”

“I’ll contact the executive engineer and order for an enquiry,” the Minister reiterated.

On the contrary, Odisha Diploma Engineers’ Sevasangh (ODES) today condemned the incident meted out to one of their colleagues.

ODES executive body member Nirmala Chandra Swain told media, “We have brought the matter into the notice of the Chief Secretary today. Also we’ll bring it to the notice of Principal Secretary of Works Department.”

“The incident that has happened and the MLA taking law into his hands is no way justified. We demand that the State Government should take action against the MLA as per the law,” he stated.

On the JE’s case, he stated, “If someone has committed mistake, whoever it may be, he should be dealt with legally not like this by taking law into one’s hands.”
