Rayagada: Three staff members of District Headquarters Hospital (DHH), Rayagada, were detained by police on Thursday after death of a patient due to alleged medical negligence.

Reportedly, Rashmi Ranjan Khatua of Rayagada town had been admitted at the hospital at around 10 AM today after he suffered a stroke. While the doctor who attended him suggested conducting ECG test, the person who conducts the test said that it can only be done after 2 PM.

Even after contacting the hospital authorities in this regard, the test was not conducted and in the meantime Khatua breathed his last.

On getting information, his family members and friends gathered at the hospital and demanded action against the persons responsible. Amid the chaos, police arrived at the spot and detained the Hospital Manager and two pharmacists for interrogation.

Rayagada CDMO Artabandhu Nayak said he had directed the ADMO (Medical) to conduct ECG test, who subsequently conveyed the message to the Hospital Manager but Khatua died in a very short time.

Meanwhile, he has instructed the ADMO (Medical) to conduct a probe in this regard and submit the report within 24 hours, based on which action will be taken against the persons responsible.
