Parents Association Writes To Odisha CM Over Arbitrary Fee Hike By Private Schools In State

12 August 2019

Bhubaneswar: To safeguard the interests of over 13 lakhs students in Odisha, the state level parent's organization has written to Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik to control the arbitrary fee hike by unaided Private English Medium Schools and Odiya Medium Schools in State.

"We have been demanding for a long time to constitute a Regulation Act to control the arbitrariness of fee hike by schools. School & Mass Education Department constituted a Fees Regulatory Committee on 29 March 2018 to finalize and regulate a fee structure but the Committee's recommendation has been pending with Chief Minister's Office since 16.08.2018," the letter mentions.

"We have discussed with officials in your office but still no results. The admission process for 2019-20 sessions have already been completed. In the meanwhile, some schools in State have forcefully collected fee for next 10 years with a personal bond. This has created problems across Odisha," the letter adds.

As per information, some schools increase fees by 10% to 50% in every year forcefully without permission of Govt. "The middle class people are highly affected with this illegal fee increase. Around 13 lakh families in Odisha are in a confusing position. We request you to take early steps for order implementation of FRC report," the letter concludes.
