Parcel Bomb Tragedy: Kingpin Punjilal's 6-Day Remand Ends

Cuttack: The six-day remand of Punjilal Meher, the prime accused of the sensational Patnagarh parcel bomb tragedy, ended on Tuesday at the Odisha Crime Branch headquarters here following which he was taken back to Patnagarh for re-production in the SDJM Court there.

The Crime Branch sources also informed that Punjilal's 8-day more remand will be sought from the court in a bid to elicit more information on his modus operandi and execution of the crime as a lone wolf as claimed by him.

Punjilal will be re-produced before the Patnagarh SDJM Court tomorrow.

Punjilal Meher during his interrogation has claimed that he single-handedly designed the whole plot and sent the parcel bomb to his college colleague Sanjukta Sahu's son Soumya Sekhar's wedding to take revenge as Sanjukta had superseded his principal post.

The mystery, that used to shroud over the explosion of deadly parcel bomb, has now been solved. It killed the groom Soumya Sekhar Sahu and his grandmother Jemamani at Patnagarh in Bolangir district in February this year.

The Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the State Crime Branch was successful recently to crack the tough case within a month of being entrusted with the task by Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.

Parcel bomb survivor Reema Sahu (deceased Soumya's newly-wed wife) had appealed the CM from SCB Medical bed for the intensive probe.
