Balangir: Prime accused in the parcel bomb case, Punjilal Meher, was shifted to Balangir District Jail today, a fortnight after a failed jail break attempt at Patnagarh Sub-Jail.

Reportedly on January 24, seven prisoners had tried to escape from Patnagarh Sub-Jail after being allegedly instigated by Punjilal.

However, soon after arriving at Balangir District Jail, Punjilal rubbished the allegations and demanded scrutiny of the CCTV footages of Patnagarh Sub-Jail. He claimed there was no jail break attempt and alleged being tortured by jail authorities.

Punjilal had been arrested on April 25 by the Odisha Crime Branch for planning and executing the parcel bomb crime in which newly married Soumya Sekhar Sahu and his grandmother were killed. His wife Reema got seriously injured.

He had nurtured a deep vengeance against Soumya’s mother for being promoted to the post of Principal of the college where he was teaching English. Therefore, he had decided to destroy the whole family.
