Bhubaneswar: Paddy procurement for the Kharif season will commence in Odisha from November 1.

"Paddy procurement for Kharif season will begin in the entire State from November 1," informed Cooperation, Food Supplies & Consumer Welfare Minister Ranendra Pratap Swain to newsmen here today.

The Minister said that the State government as of now has set a target to procure 60 lakh metric tonnes of paddy in the current year which will be enhanced later.

"The mandis (market yard/procurement centres) will remain open even if farmers do not turn up to sell their produce. We will give repeated chance to the farmers to bring their paddy to the mandi at their convenience for sale," stated Swain.

Civil Supplies Officers (CSO)s and other officials of all the 30 districts of the State have been informed through video conferencing today to expedite the paddy procurement process, the Minister added.

Giving details of the process, the Minister said that the process will be centrally monitored through a newly developed robust system which includes Aadhar authentication so that no farmer faces any difficulty under any circumstance.

"We, therefore, expect cooperation from all farmers," Swain said and added that all CSOs and District Collectors have been informed in this connection.

Besides, women self help groups (SHGs) have been imparted with training for their participation in this process, he further informed.
