Kalahandi: In a shocking and gruesome incident, an elderly woman was mauled to death by eight to ten stray dogs at Binjabahal village in Dharmagarh under Golamunda police limits here today morning.

The deceased has been identified as Bhoomisuta Majhi.

Reportedly, the woman was returning to her home after attending nature's call in the field when she fell prey to the stray dogs. The dogs chased her for several minutes and caught hold of her. She was mauled by the animals and succumbed to her injuries on the spot.

Such an incident is not rare. Two months back, a 9-year-old girl also met with a similar fate in Daspur village of Kalahandi. After two such cases, locals have appealed to the district administration to take neccessary steps in dealing with the dog menace.
