Bhubaneswar: Taking a step towards cleaner temple premises, the Lingaraj Temple Administration issued a ban on consumption of paan, gutkha or alcohol in the temple complex.
In a notice issued on Monday, the administration decided against the banned items as it had come to their notice that a few devotees and sevayats or servitors were entering temple premises while chewing paan or gutkha and spitting inside the premises. The notice added that use of any kind of narcotics substance negatively impacted the atmosphere of the temple.
Use of any of the banned items will attract a fine of Rs 100. The order will be imposed from January 15, the notice said.
As part of the major beautification drive initiated by the State Government, a special package called Ekamra Kshetra Yojana was announced for the Lingaraj Temple.
