Our Biggest Challenge In 2019 Is General Election: Odisha DGP

Bhubaneswar: Director General of Police (DGP) today stated that the biggest challenge of Odisha Police in 2019 is the upcoming general election.

Interacting with media on the sidelines of the inaugural session of the three-day-long 61st Senior Police Officers’ Conference at the Police Bhawan here, DGP Rajendra Prasad Sharma said, “The biggest challenge at present in 2019 is the general election, going to be held within a few months.”

He informed, “Odisha Police has already begun its preparation for the general election. All are being sensitized. In this conference also we have a session on it in our agenda for discussions. Accordingly, the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) will hold a preliminary sensitization session by interacting with the senior officers here. Later on at different place, the same sensitization will be made among all levels of officers, right from the police station level to SP and Range Headquarters. A detailed session of discussion will be held there.”

“The preventive measures that the Odisha Police has to take prior to the election will be started very soon. We will be taking stock of our manpower position. Also we’ll discuss how to keep under control the anti-social and disturbing elements. It is the duty of the Odisha Police to ensure free, fair and transparent election. Hence, training session and sensitization will be made for the all the SPs and field level officers,” he stressed.

The Odisha DGP also informed, “For the investigation of Cyber Crime and also to check it, we will hold discussion here at this conference. There is a need for public awareness campaign for checking Cyber Crime. There is also need for skilled investigators for Cyber Crime investigation. Hence, there will be lots of training programmes for the skilled investigators so that we could prevent it as well as the perpetrators could be booked.”
