Orissa High Court Directs Government To Suspend Jharsuguda Collector

14 August 2019

Cuttack: The Orissa High Court has directed the State Government to suspend Jharsuguda Collector Jyoti Ranjan Pradhan over contempt of court charges.

The division bench of Chief Justice KS Jhaveri and Justice KR Mohapatra directed the government to take the step for not complying with its March 2019 judgment. The next hearing of the case will be held on August 27.

Earlier this year, the district administration had issued a demand notice to a liquor trader identified as K Bina Patnaik over non-payment of dues. He had challenged the notice in the High Court, following which the court had directed the district administration to not take any action against the said trader.

Pradhan, after taking charge as the District Collector, had cancelled the license of the said trader without any prior notice. As Patnaik moved the court against it, the HC directed for suspension of the Collector.
