Cuttack: In a great relief to veteran Odisha politician Damodar Rout in the 2010 Kujanga casteist remark case, Orissa High Court today quashed both the FIR and entire criminal proceedings against Rout.

A case was registered by the Kujanga Police Station in 2010 against former BJD leader Dama Rout for using the word 'Harijan' while addressing a public gathering at Kujanga then.

Informing media, advocate Biswajit Maharana said, “A false case was registered under 3 ST/SC Act against Dama Babu at Kujang Police Station. It was alleged that Dama Babu uttered casteist word.

“The FIR which had been registered has been challenged by Dama Babu in the Orissa High Court. After hearing the parties, Hon’ble High Court has quashed the entire proceedings of the criminal case including FIR,” the advocate added.

He stated, “Our allegation was that a false case has been filed as Dama Babu had never uttered such word so that it would attract Section 3 of ST/SC Act. Hence, hon’ble Justice A.K. Mishra was pleased to accept our argument and the case has been quashed by the High Court.”

He further informed, senior advocate Bijan Bihari Ray was Dama Babu’s counsel.
