Cuttack: The Orissa High Court today conferred concurrent jurisdiction in respect to the courts of all cadres of districts where courts are not functioning, upon the courts of their respective cadre of adjacent districts where the courts are functioning.

The Supreme Court had expressed serious concern with regard to continuous abstention of lawyers from the Courts in different parts of Odisha. In its order issued on December 12, 2019, the apex court requested Orissa HC to consider identifying adjacent districts, where courts are functioning and create concurrent jurisdiction.

The SC had requested the Orissa HC to transfer an adequate number of officers from the non-working districts to the working districts for the said purpose. Later, the Orissa HC had sought for feasibility reports from the adjacent districts.
