Orangutan 'Bini' In Nandankanan Zoo Passes Away

Bhubaneswar: The aged Orangutan of Nandankanan Zoo passed away on Wednesday at about 9.40 pm due to old age complicacy followed by  respiratory tract infection. The orangutan was 41 years old.

The animal was under long term treatment since one year. He was constantly being monitored by experts from the College of Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry (OUAT) under constant advise of Orangutan experts from UK and Singapore. The detail cause of its death will be ascertained after its post-mortem, informed the zoo authorities.

Notably, Orangutan Bini was received from Pune zoo in November 2003 at the age of 25 years. Since the last three days she was suffering from cold and old age related respiratory tract issues.
