One Year Of Odisha Hockey Men's World Cup-2018

Bhubaneswar: With the State Government going to celebrate one year of Odisha Men's Hockey World Cup-2018 on Wednesday, let's have a look at the impact it left behind.

The Hockey Men’s World Cup-2018 was the 14th edition of the Hockey World Cup held from 28 November to 16 December 2018, at the renovated and upgraded Hockey Complex at Kalinga Stadium inaugurated by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on 27 November 2018.

Months ahead of the event, the Chief Minister unveiled the new jersey of the Indian Hockey Team showcasing Odisha's name with pride. It was then Indian Olympic Association President Narinder Dhruv Batra declared that Bhubaneswar has become the ‘Sports Capital’ of India.

A campaign titled ‘Heart Beats for Hockey’ was also launched by the State Government to get India behind the game through music, entertainment, fashion, sport and panel discussions. On August 30, 2018,digital campaign starring the National Hockey Team urged people to pledge their support for the game, saying: “My Heart Beats for Hockey. Does yours?” Till November 29, 2018 the campaign had garnered 2,35,38,799 heart beats with the nation giving its heart to hockey.

On December 5, 2018, music maestro AR Rehman launched a music video 'Jai Hind India' in tribute to Indian Hockey. Rehman was joined by Shahrukh Khan, Nayanthara, Sivamani, Neeti Mohan, Shweta Mohan, Jonita Gandhi, Sasha Tirupathi, Shweta Pandit, Harshdeep and the National Hockey World Cup Players in the music video that intended to inspire the young generation to take the first step towards world domination in sports and leadership.

Sharing a short video of the event today, Sports & Youth Services department tweeted, "Down the memory lane! This day, one year ago, Bhubaneswar was glittery and all eyes were set on the star-studded opening ceremony of #HWC2018 attended by AR Rahman, Shah Rukh Khan & Madhuri Dixit at Kalinga Stadium."
