Angul: Gobra’s former Sarpanch Pratima Behera won hearts when she organized remarriage of her daughter-in-law after the untimely death of her son. This heartwarming incident occurred on September 11 which was exactly two months after her son’s death.

As per sources, Pratima’s younger son Rashmiranjan had married Lily Behera, of Turanga village, in February 2019. Five months passed in marital bliss for the young couple. A pall of gloom fell on the family when Rashmiranjan was killed in a Bharatpur mine mishap.

Pratima, her elder son, and daughter-in-law were heartbroken at Rashmiranjan’s death. What was more painful for them was the state of young widow Lily. Over these five months, Pratima had come to love Lily as her own daughter and she wanted the best for her. She asserts that there is nothing wrong with widow remarriage.

On insistence of her elder son and daughter-in-law, Pratima initiated the topic of remarriage to Lily. Lily too had come to love Pratima as her own mother but refused to remarry.

Another two months passed when everyone was finally able to convince Lily for marriage.

Pratima approached her brother Pranabandhu, of Hemasurapada village, regarding Lily’s wedding with his son. Pranabandhu happily obliged to this match. And in the presence of the entire family, the wedding was solemnized at Jagannath Temple of Rajkishorepada.
