Odisha: Sorcerer Engaged By Kangaroo Court Accuses Family Of Theft, Get Them Thrashed In Public

Nayagarh: An elderly woman and her family members were thrashed by the villagers at Kotagada under Rajasunakhala gram panchayat in Ranapur block of Nayagarh district on Monday after a sorcerer accused her family of a theft conducted last month.

Reportedly on May 18, a theft had taken place in the house of one Bhaskar Dora of the village and he had lodged a complaint at the local police station. After police failed to nab the culprit, Bhaskar called for a Kangaroo Court which engaged a sorcerer to find the thief.

As per the instruction of the sorcerer, the villagers carried a cot around the village on Monday morning. It was after the cot touched the house of one Gitanjali Dora of the village, the villagers dragged her and family members out of the house and thrashed them.

Gitanjali's mother has been seriously injured in the incident following which she lodged a complaint at the local police station on Tuesday night.
