Odisha: Woman Burnt Alive In Sambalpur, In-Laws Held

Sambalpur: In a tragic incident, a woman who was allegedly set ablaze by her in-laws at VSS Colony in Hirakud area, succumbed while undergoing treatment at Burla Hospital today.

The deceased has been identified as Jyotirmayee Nayak (27). Reportedly, she was being tortured by her in-laws as she had given birth to two daughters.

On February 13, her in-laws forcibly took her to the roof, tied her to a rod, allegedly poured kerosene over her and torched her. On sustaining more than 90 per cent burn injuries in the incident, she was rushed to VIMSAR in Burla by neighbours. She succumbed to her injuries today while undergoing treatment.

On the basis of a complaint by Jyotirmayee’s family members, the cops have arrested her father-in-law and have detained her mother-in-law and the husband.

Further probe into the matter is underway.
