Gajapati: Witchcraft has reared its ugly head again, as a youth was allegedly murdered in Balipanka village under Mohana police station limits here last night over black magic suspicion on his father.

The deceased has been identified as Mikhail Pradhan.

The incident occurred on Friday night when one Marshall Parichha of Dambaguda village allegedly attacked Mikhail when he was returning home. Mikhail’s throat was slit and he had sustained grievous injuries from the hacking that had been perpetrated to him allegedly by Marshall.

Deceased’s father, Magata Pradhan has claimed that Parichha’s son had died a few months back after a stray dog had bit him. Instead of accepting that, Parichha had blamed Magata for having performed ‘black magic’ on his son that had killed him.

Since then, Parichha had vowed to avenge his son’s death by killing my son, alleged the deceased’s father Magata.

The enmity between the two families had also been settled in a kangaroo court in the last month, sources said.

A senior officer of Mohana police station informed that the involvement of two to three more persons in the murder is also suspected and though it appears that murder was a fallout of past enmity over suspected witchcraft, further probe in the matter is currently underway.
