Bhubaneswar: Odisha on Thursday reeled under extreme heat as the maximum temperature rose to 40 degrees Celsius at some places. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted no relief for Bhubaneswar and many other towns of the state for the next five days, and the maximum temperature may rise up to 45 degree Celsius.

The thunderstorms brought some relief from the rising mercury levels few days back. Local Met station predicted that the thunderstorm activity which was prevelant in Bhubaneswar and some other places will reduce from Thursday onwards, India Meteorological Department (IMD) Bhubaneswar Director, HR Biswas said.

Mostly the interior parts of the State will be hit by the heatwave. "We have issued heatwave warning in isolated pockets over the next four days. Bolangir, Bargarh, Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada and Kalahandi districts will experience maximum tempratures during the last week of April and first week of May," Biswas said.

The IMD Director added that there is no need to panic for the general public. However, children and the senior citizens need to take care while moving out during the daytime and avoid outdoors between 10 am and 4 pm.
