Odisha: VSSUT Acts Tough Against 20 Students Over Ragging Charges

Sambalpur: Taking serious note of instances of ragging in the recent days, the authorities of VSS University of Technology (VSSUT) have suspended one student from the institution and four others from the hostel.

The student who was rusticated from the college belongs to BTech Third Year, while the rest of the four students belong to the fourth year.

VSSUT authorities have taken the stringent step after a meeting of the Anti-Ragging Committee under the chairmanship of VSSUT Vice Chancellor Prof Atal Choudhury. 15 others who were found involved in ragging have been penalised with a fine of Rs 2,000, said sources.

The anti-ragging committee received an oral complaint from junior students on Friday following which an urgent meeting was called by the VC.

Apart from the disciplinary action, the committee has decided that the first year students will be escorted by six security guards while they commute between the hostel and the college, and vice-versa.

This apart, to ensure security of the junior students, adequate number of CCTV cameras will be installed in the hostels which will be regularly monitored by the varsity authorities, sources added.
