Bhubaneswar: Utkal Bharat chief Kharavela Swain and his supporters joined BJP at the party's State headquarters in Bhubaneswar here today morning. He joined the party in the presence of Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

He said, "I want to fight corruption in the State for which I joined this national party. I am confident that BJP has the potential to do that. I will be contesting polls from Kandhamal Lok Sabha seat."

Swain, who was elected to Lok Sabha thrice on BJP ticket, took a different political path in 2010. He left the BJP and formed Utkala Bharat. Together with the Aama Odisha Party, Utkal Bharat had sought an alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party for the 2014 Indian general election. However, no deal was reached with the BJP. 5 years later, he joined the BJP today before the upcoming polls.
