Odisha: Undertrial Prisoner Dies While Undergoing Treatment In Nabarangpur

Nabarangpur: An undertrial prisoner (UTP) lodged at Umerkote sub-jail died while undergoing treatment at the district headquarters hospital (DHH) here today morning. The deceased has been identified as Deba Majhi.

The 35-year-old native of Raighar block had been arrested four months back. On Monday evening, he suddenly felt stiffness in his hands and legs and was not able to move them. The authorities rushed him to Umerkote Community Health Centre (CHC) and after primary health care he was shifted to Nabarangpur DHH.

His family members have alleged that in the DHH, he was put on one saline and not looked after. They cited medical negligence behind Majhi's death in DHH. Jail authorities Paresh Kumar Das and Dipti Ranjan Mohanty were present to monitor Majhi's situation

Post-mortem is yet to be done to ascertain the exact reason behind the death. He is survived by his wife and two sons.
