Odisha: Two Killed In Separate Elephant Attacks In Sundargarh

Sundargarh: Two people were killed in separate incidents of tuskers intruding villages and attacking the locals. Both incidents occurred in the Sundargarh district on late Thursday.

In the first incident, an elderly man was killed in an elephant attack near Gotitansar village in Nuagaon block. As per reports, the man was returning with three other passengers in an auto-rickshaw when the incident happened.  The other three occupants somehow evaded the attack and are said to be safe.

The second incident occurred at Sialjor village under Kutra police limits where a youth was killed when they were trying to drive away a herd of elephants that had strayed into the village.

As many as 369 persons were killed and 207 injured in wild elephant attacks in the last four years (from June 2015-June 2019) in the State. This detail was revealed by Forest and Environment Minister Bikram Keshari Arukh in the winter session of the Odisha Assembly.
