Odisha: Twin City CP Alerts Denizens To Ignore Fake Helpline Nos On Social Media

Bhubaneswar: Social media in Odisha is abuzz with posts with fictitious phone numbers claiming to be 'helplines' for women in distress. This trend has gained prominence after protests in different parts of the country over Hyderabad gang rape case.

On Thursday, Police Commissioner of Bhubaneswar - Cuttack, Sudhanshu Sarangi issued an alert to the public, especially women, to disregard such posts out rightly. In a Tweet, posted today evening, Sarangi urged the denizens of Twin City to use Dial 100 facility in case of any emergency.

The Police Commissioner's Tweet mentioned:

A FB trend of some people posting their cell numbers offering help to women/girls has come to our notice.

Advice:

(a) Don’t rely on these posts.

(b) Dial 100 for our friendly & well-trained operators to attend you.

(c) give us feedback to improve our service.
