Dhenkanal: A male tusker fell into a trap set for wild boar and resultantly was electrocuted to death on Sunday at Kadampala in Matiamundia under Dhenkanal Sadar forest range. The body was found Monday morning.
The elephant is of seven-foot height and approximately 15-20 year-old, informed Sadar Ranger Manowar Khan. He said, “The elephant might have been killed after falling into a trap set for wild boar. The trap was probably set by poachers for hunting wild boars. The forest department has initiated an investigation regarding the pachyderm’s death.”
District Forest Officer along with Sadar Ranger retrieved the elephant’s dead body and have sent it for autopsy. Khan added that the cause of death can be established once the reports are in.
