Cuttack: Irate locals of Salepur area torched a truck late last night after the vehicle mowed down two persons near Barakolia in Katikata-Jepore road under Nemalo police limits here.

The deceased have been identified as Jyoti Ranjan Das and Dilip Das of Dailo village.

The truck bearing the registration number OD-25E-5025 came speeding and crashed into a bike. While two persons died on the spot, another Srikant Das was critically injured and was rushed to SCB Medical College and Hospital.

As soon as irate villagers heard of the accident, they reached the spot and set as many as three trucks on fire. While the driver of the truck had fled, aggrieved locals staged a demonstration and blocked the road. On intimation, fire services personnel reached the spot and doused the flames. Nemalo police too reached the spot and took stock of the situation.
