Odisha Transport Minister Reviews Implementation Of Road Safety Measures

Bhubaneswar: Commerce and Transport Minister Nrusingha Charan Sahu at the road safety council meeting held here today took stock of the progress achieved in the last six months in implementation of road safety measures in Odisha.

After the meeting Transport Department Secretary G Srinivas said there has been a progress in curbing offences such as helmetless ride and drunk driving after powers were conferred on police to take action in such cases.

Presently the department has the data about accident prone areas and has checked whether enforcement is being carried out in the area or not, said Srinivas adding “A system has been put in place and lots of work has been done by engineering department also to remove the humps at such places. We can now monitor the areas where accidents occur on a map due to geo-fencing.

He further informed that more number of accidents have occurred in seven to eight districts. Discussion was held to find the reason behind the high number of mishaps and what corrective measures can be taken.
