Odisha To Get Place In Centre's "Iconic Tourism Sites" List

20 August 2019

Bhubaneswar: Following mounting demands by Odisha to place at least two of its important tourist spots/heritage sites in Centre’s “17 Iconic Tourism Sites”, Union Culture Minister Prahlad Singh Patel today agreed and suggested that Odisha should not be deprived of.

He expressed this at the Tourism & Culture Ministers’ Conference at New Delhi today.

He admitted that Konark and Puri are two places which can never be ignored.

He further defended that there has been documentary lacunae provided by Odisha Government for which the two world heritage spots were not enlisted in Centre’s “17 Iconic Tourism Sites’ as has been announced by the Union Finance Minister during her Union Budget Speech this year.

Notably on July 10, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had written a letter to the Centre to include at least 2 important Odisha tourist spots in the “17 Iconic Tourism Sites List” and expressed anguish over omission of important tourist places of Odisha from the Union Government’s list. The Chief Minister had also in his long letter argued his point of view in details.
