Bhubaneswar: Odisha government has already started processing for auctioning 47 mines in the State before March 2020, informed Steel & Mines Minister Prafulla Kumar Mallik allaying fears that lapse of leases of 24 operational mines in 2020 would affect industry and production.

"Apart from the seven mines which we have recently assigned to SBI Capital Markets Ltd (SBICAP) for auctioning, process to complete auction of another 40 mines before March has begun," stated Mallik speaking to media persons here on Tuesday.

"The mines to be put up for auction include 24 operational mines whose leases will lapse in 2020 and 16 new ones and the seven already assigned to SBICAP for auctioning," he elaborated.

The Steel and Mines Minister said that these mines include 26 iron ore mines.

Responding to a query, whether slowdown in the economy had affected mining in the State, the Minister's reply was in the negative.
