Odisha: Thunderstorm & Rainfall Expected Over Next 3 Days, Fishermen Warned

Bhubaneswar: After few days of mercury soaring to almost 40 degree Celsius in several part of the State, Regional Meteorological Department has predicted severe thunderstorm and rainfall activity during February 24-27.

The maximum temperatures were above normal by 4-5 degrees during last 24 hours and there would be confluence of moistures incursion at lower levels over East India during February 26 and 27, mentioned the press release by the Met Department.

On Feb 24, light to moderate rain or thundershower is very likely to occur at a few places over the districts of interior Odisha & at one or two places over the districts of coastal Odisha. Thunderstorm with gusty wind and lightening is likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Angul, Deogarh, Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, Nuapada, Kalahandi and Kandhamal.

On Feb 25, light to moderate rain or thundershower is very likely to occur at many places over the districts of north Odisha and at a few places over the districts of South Odisha. Thunder squall with lightning and hail likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Keonjhar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Dhenkanal and Angul. Thunderstorm with gusty wind and lightning is likely to occur at one or two places over rest districts of north Odisha and Khurda, Puri, Nayagarh, Kandhamal, Kalahandi and Ganjam districts of south Odisha.

On Feb 26, light to moderate rain or thundershower is very likely to occur at a few places over the districts of Odisha. Thunderstorm with gusty wind and lightning is likely to occur at one or two places over Mayubhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Keonjhar, Dhenkanal, Kendrapada, Angul, Deogarh and Sundargarh districts.

On Feb 27, light to moderate rain or thundershower is very likely to occur at a few places over the districts of north coastal Odisha and at one or two places over the districts of rest Odisha.

In the meanwhile, maximum day temperature is likely to be above normal by 4-5 degrees during the next 48 hours in the State.

Thunderstorm activity with squally wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph is likely over coastal Odisha and north-west Bay of Bengal area on 26th and 27th Feb. Thus, fishermen are advised not to venture into the sea in coastal odisha and north-west Bay of Bengal on those two days.
