Odisha: Tension Grips Lanjigarh Vedanta, 1 Killed, Many Injured In Face-Off Between Villagers & Security Guards

Kalahandi: In a shocking incident, a villager was killed and many others were injured after a face-off between villagers and security guards in front of Vedanta Alumina factory in Lanjigarh here.

The deceased has been identified as Dani Patra, a native of Chhatrapur.

Reportedly, the Rengalpali villagers who have been displaced from their land were trying to break into the Vedanta factory to demand jobs. Sources said that security guards of Vedanta resorted to lathi-charge to stop the agitators.

As a result of this, Dani was killed in the face-off and over 40 persons were injured. Irate locals staged road blockade and protested against the violence. Prohibitory orders under Sec 144 have been clamped outside the factory.

OMMCOM NEWS tried reaching Kalahandi SP but he remained unavailable for a comment citing 'law and order situation'.
