Bhubaneswar: Sundergarh MLA Jogesh Singh was suspended from Congress on Thursday. Singh, who had announced that he would not join Rahul Gandhi's Odisha visit on January 25, had to face the flak of the Disciplinary Committee of Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee.

OPCC's Disciplinary Committee Convener Anant Sethi said today that a call on Singh's suspension was taken after due approval from the All India Congress Committee.

Though Singh had cited a packed schedule in his constituency for his non-availability during Rahul Gandhi's visit, the Congress high command was in no mood to budge.

Singh had also shown his predilection towards the ruling Biju Janata Dal earlier. And if sources are to be believed, he would toe the line of Jharsuguda MLA Naba Das and join the BJD soon.

Speaking to the media, Singh said that he would soon resign from the Odisha Legislative Assembly as Sundergarh MLA. "I welcome the decision Congress party but assert that I have not been involved in anti-party activities," Singh said.

He added that since Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik is working diligently for the welfare of Odisha, "I praised him."

"Even Union Ministers during the UPA government had also praised the Odisha Chief Minister. I have not yet received any formal invitation from the BJD. On getting on, I shall consider joining the BJD," he added.
