Bhubaneswar: The State Government will start with strict enforcement of the amended Motor Vehicle Act from December 1 across the State. As per the directions of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, the enforcement was relaxed after public resentment was at its peak against excesses were reported from across the State.

The State Government had implemented the Act on September 1, but deferred it till December 6 in view of public resentment against it due to high penalty amounts.

“Commuters’ safety is the primary concern of the State Government. Odisha has already relaxed traffic norms for three months. It will be enforced again from December 1,” Commerce and Transport Minister, Padmanav Behera said today. The Odisha Government has collected more than Rs 1 crore as traffic penalty in two months since the implementation of the new amended Act in September and October.
