Bhubaneswar: The Special Task Force (STF) of Odisha Crime Branch has arrested a man who was involved in illegal stone mining and land-grabbing activities. The accused identified as Md Tabrez was first detained by Immigration officials at Kolkata airport while he was trying to fly to Thailand with his wife.

Tabrez was handed over to local Kolkata police who produced him before SDJM Barrackpore. The STF team sought a transit remand for the accused and brought him back to Bhubaneswar. He was on the most wanted list of the Crime Branch, said sources.

According to the STF, Tabrez was allegedly involved in illegal quarrying in land belonging to Shree Jagannath Temple at Khurda. Earlier, the STF had issued a lookout circular against Tabrez

Today, he was produced before SDJM Khurda. He used to threaten local people and rival gang members with illegal firearms. He was also wanted in a case registered at Kishan Nagar police station in Cuttack, the STF stated.
