Bhubaneswar: In view of the construction of multi-storied apartment for members of the Odisha Assembly, Speaker Surya Narayan Patro on Saturday has directed to issue notices to ex-MLAs to vacate the government quarters to accommodate the present MLAs till completion of the proposed building.
Patro informed that the MLA colony has been divided into two sections. The quarters in one section will be demolished for the proposed apartment, which will consist of flats for MLAs in line with that being provided to MPs in New Delhi.
Till construction of the apartment the MLAs will be provided the Government quarters which are being occupied by outsiders or former MLAs, who had been asked on September 16 to vacate the premises.
The Works department, which is in charge of the construction, have been asked to issue notices to the present occupants within three days to vacate the quarters.
Patro informed that legally an ex-MLA can stay in the Government quarter allotted to him or her only for six months after the tenure is over. Police action may be initiated against them if they do not vacate the quarters within the deadline.
