Puri: A blame-game has ensued between a family of Ramchandrapur village and the doctors of Puri DHH, after the death of a man due to snakebite here today morning.

The deceased has been identified as Ramesh Behera, who was bitten by snake at around 4 am in the morning. After being bitten by the venomous reptile, Behera walked to a nearby Shiva Temple to heal himself.

Later, when his condition did not get any better, Behera’s family members called one of their relatives Sashank Mishra to take him to the DHH.

Mishra said, “We took Behera to the DHH but the doctors said there is no poison in his body. They gave him all the wrong medications due to which he died.”

Meanwhile, ADMO GK Acharya countered, “Sometimes snakebite is not easily detected specially if it is a cobra bite. However, we had taken the precautionary measure of administering anti-venom injection to him. But, his condition further deteriorated as he was brought extremely late to the hospital almost 2-3 hrs after the snakebite.”

“We referred him to SCB Cuttack but he died before we could shift him,” explained the medical officer.
