Odisha: Show Cause Notice To Barabati-Cuttack MLA Debashish Samantaray For ‘Influencing Voters’, BJD Alleges 'EC's Partiality'

23 April 2019

Cuttack: Amidst phase-III polls, Cuttack Collector-cum-District Election Officer issued show cause notice to Cuttack-Barabati BJD MLA Debashish Samantaray for allegedly influencing voters.

Reportedly, Samantaray had posted a Facebook status on April 22 during the EC ban/silence period. The post was "influencing voters" and thus DEO has sought reply on why his message should not be treated as poll code violation under section 126 of Representation of the People Act. The reply must be given within 48 hours, stated reports.

Soon after that, BJD wrote to the CEO Surendra Kumar alleging that Election Commission is partial for not letting BJP leaders, like Dharmendra Pradhan go scot-free, who are threatening, intimidating and obstructing poll officials.

It is notable to mention here that Debashish Samantaray is the incumbent MLA from Cuttack-Barabati assembly seat. The party has fielded him once again from the same seat for 2019 Odisha Assembly polls.

People of Cuttack-Barabati assembly constituency are voting today, i.e third phase (April 23).
