Odisha: Shopping Mall Official Arrested, Accused Of Attack On Woman Journalist

Bhubaneswar: The Marketing Manager of city-based Esplanade One was arrested along with two other employees on charges of allegedly misbehaving with a woman journalist.

As per reports, on Saturday the journalist and her colleague were reporting from the mall premises regarding the continuation of charging of parking fees. The journalist Swati Jena and cameraperson Pramod Mohapatra of a private news web portal named Argus were allegedly manhandled by two security staff on direction of the mall’s Marketing Manager.

Coming out in support of fellow journalist, several other journalists staged a dharna for close to 10 hours on Sunday in front of the mall demanding action against the alleged culprits. Following this, the Commissionerate Police arrested the Manager, Shyama Jha, and two security guards- Pankaj Sahoo and Mahant Biswal.

However, Jha was out on bail by evening.

As per last reports, the journalists are protesting again today demanding stringent action against those responsible.

Speaking to the media persons, Commissioner of Police Dr Sudhanshu Sarangi said, “The investigations need to follow its due process just like in any other case. Every accused has the right to an unbiased judicial process. Just like in any other case, we will make sure that the culprits are not let loose.”
