Bhubaneswar: Odisha's S Aswatha Narayana has won India’s first ever gold at the 45th WorldSkills competition held at Kazan, Russia on Tuesday. The Indian team also scalped one silver and two bronze medals.
This achievement by an Odia boy is all set to scale Odisha as the Skill Development Capital of the country, chairman of Odisha Skill Development Authority, Subroto Bagchi said today.
On the sidelines of a workshop organised by the Commissionerate of Police, Bagchi said it is a proud moment as the event (WorldSkills) is considered as Olympics in the skill development sector.
"People have come to know the Odisha is the most appropriate place for skill development. This achievement has encouraged us and we believe that the India would perform even better in the 2021 Shanghai WorldSkills competition."
5,000 youths have participated in the Odisha Skills Competition out of which 45 were selected to the Regional level, 21 of them were selected for the National level.
"We consider the crème de la crème as a talent pool who will be engaged in the proposed World Skills Centre," he added.
