Bhubaneswar: In the third phase of open defecation assessment, the Central Government has certified 110 out of 114 urban local bodies of Odisha as open defecation free. During 2019, Odisha ranked 17 in the Swachh Survekshan 2019,
There are 1.32 lakh personal, 5,213 community and 4,421 public toilets in urban areas of the State. The State has exceeded the target set under Swacchaa Bharat Mission in constructing toilets in urban areas. These toilets can be located on Google Map.
Berhampur Municipal Corporation has bagged the ++ certification in ODF and has applied for three-star rating in waste management. Municipal bodies of Jajpur, Karanjia, Taraba and Paradip will be awarded by the Centre for the steps taken towards municipal waste management during 2019.
333 community and public toilets in Odisha have received ISO certification while 86 municipal bodies have applied for ODF ++ rating.
All municipal bodies are working on setting up micro-composting system for solid waste management. Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has allocated Rs 576 crore for 114 urban bodies for setting up 242 SWM plants.
